A LOOK AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER MAP 
 
As of 8 a.m. EST, a storm (29.42) was just east of New Jersey with a 
cold front extending southward through the Gulf of Mexico. A 
stationary front extended eastward from the storm. There was another 
storm (29.34) in eastern British Columbia with a cold front 
stretching southward into northwestern Utah. At this point the front 
connected to another storm (29.75). The cold front then continued 
southward into Southern California. Areas of high pressure were 
found in southern Missouri (30.27) and southern Wisconsin (30.36)
 
WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS BY ACCU WEATHER 
 
Valentine, Nebraska, has only had 0.01 of an inch of precipitation 
for March 1997. This ties the driest March on record that was set in
1957. No precipitation is expected today, so this record is likely to
remain unchallenged. Meanwhile, Galveston, Texas, has had 11.33 inches
of rain this March. This surpassed the old record of 9.49 inches set
in 1973. Record high tied yesterday at Bridgeport, CT, with 66
degrees. This tied the old record from 1968. 

A strong spring storm unleashed high winds along the Washington coast 
and the Pacific Northwest interior yesterday. Peak winds included:

Destruction Island, WA 84 mph Westport, WA 71 mph 
Tatoosh Island, WA 69 mph Hoquiam Airport, WA 62 mph
Puyallup, WA 60 mph Bangor, WA 68 mph 
Hood Canal Bridge, WA 66 mph Burlington, WA 71 mph 
San Juan Island, WA 60 mph Hermiston, OR 57 mph 

Winds are already increasing in the East as a strong coastal storm 
intensifies offshore of the mid-Atlantic Coast. Some peak wind gusts 
(mph) include:

-Baltimore, MD 27 
-Pittsburgh, PA 26
